The Castle Guard and Czech Police Orchestra rank among the world's top wind orchestras. Recordings by this ensemble have already been greeted with extraordinary enthusiasm by listeners around the world. This new title, prepared under the direction of principal conductor Miroslav Hanzal, offers a tribute to four geniuses of Czech music, Smetana, Dvořák, Martinů and Janáček. The sensitive arrangements and outstanding repertoire showcase the brilliant artistry of the orchestra. Dvořák's work is represented by his Slavonic Dances Nos. 7, 8, 9 and 15, the Festival March (Slavnostní pochod), the Polonaise from the opera Rusalka, and My Home (Můj domov). Selections from Smetana's works include fanfares from the opera Libuše, the Furiant from The Bartered Bride (Prodaná nevěsta), Jiřinka's Polka (Jiřinková polka), To Our Maidens (Našim děvám), the March from From the Student Life (Ze studentského života), and the March of the National Guard (Pochod národní gardy). The orchestra also performs Martinů's The Magic Sack (Kouzelná mošna) and closes the album with the joyous fanfare movement from Janáček's Sinfonietta. The brilliant, full-bodied brass sound makes these pieces exceptionally colorful and stirringly convincing.
